As discussed in our blog entry A&P Beer Controversy, Rachel Beer was refused entry into the Lake Hayes A&P Show Homebrew competition. The organisers have posted an apology on their Facebook page, which it appears was made at the show itself.
A “Sheila Challenge”? Really?
A new beer festival is being organised the day after the Marlborough Blues, Brews & BBQs festival. The Summer Beer Fest will be held on February 5 at Drylands Restaurant in Hammerichs Rd, Blenheim.
We couldn’t find a website to link to, but they are planning on having seven NZ craft beers. The event is listed as FREE, 10am – 10pm, with food, tutorials and music. It’s being promoted as family friendly, so we recommend you go along and find out what it’s all about.
The Nelson Lakes area is launching a new ‘Festival of the Lake‘ to showcase their unique region. It’s being held around Kerr Bay, Lake Rotoiti on 21 and 22 January.
“With family style activities and entertainment there will be lots for you to experience.” The ambitious program includes everything from markets to four wheel driving, live music to an open air film.
The Moutere Inn will be there pouring – “If it’s a hot one you’ll need a cold one.”

They are cracking a very special keg for the occasion, too – a new brew from Liberty Brewing in New Plymouth, called ‘Simcoe Blonde”. Look for it sometime over the next week.
The fifth annual Sarau Festival at Moutere Hills Community Centre in Upper Moutere Village (Tasman District) on Sunday 29 January will again be a family day out featuring lots of local produce, food, wine and of course beers. The Moutere Inn will be sponsoring the history tent, as well as once again running a beer bar.
The craft cider market keeps expanding as Nelson’s Lighthouse Brewery joins the offerings. The first trial went well and now the second batch of Echodale is available at the brewery.
