When we moved to Nelson in late 2006, not a single local brewery was making an IPA. Since then, our beer world has well and truly changed. Whether it’s new brew from older breweries or newer, more experimental brewers, we now find ourselves living in a world surprising variety.
Continue readingWe’ve just had a chance to drop into the new Nelson Hotel, formerly the Royal Hotel, on the corner of Bridge St. and Collingwood St. in Nelson. We were drawn by reports that it was selling local craft beer, including Monkey Wizard, Golden Bear and Stoke.

Last night, with our plan in place, we marched off to Mashing In, the Brewers Guild’s networking happy hour. It’s sort of a kick-off event, and most of the brewers and industry people who are in Wellington for the BrewNZ Beer Awards dinner tonight show up to mingle and taste each other’s beers.
